Dreamed about in Vorkuta. In exile. A dress for which she had been saving money for six months… And there she sewed it…
Nowadays, among the piles of things that are given to us to make tapes of, the girls came across a dress with a note attached by a pin.
They brought it to me to show. I am reading the note and feel that I can neither breathe nor speak – as if something rolled on me…
Because I know the owner of this dress. And I know her story…
Liubov Pohoniuk, neè Piddubii, from Kunyn. At the age of 14 she became a contact woman in the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, at the age of 15 she was arrested, and after the procedures of interrogation and torture, common to the soviets, was sent to the camps in Vorkuta. And then – exile without the right to return home…
9 years ago, when I was still employed at the Rivne Regional Television [now – UA:Rivne, public broadcaster – Ed.], we made a program – as they said, a film about Auntie Liuba…
But she decided to at least somehow join the good cause…
“Let the camouflage net protect from enemies… Glory to Ukraine!”
We did not cut this dress. It will go to the museum. This dress is history…
This dress is a connection of generations and epochs.
Liuba’s green dress…
Thank you, God, for the people…
